Man pleads to 3rd-degree murder for North Side slaying Aaron Smith, 33, pleaded no contest to third-degree murder for killing Rasul Aquil, 23, three years ago on the city's North Side. Smith and another man, Demetrius Caligiuri, will be sentenced by Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Edward J. Borkowski on March 15. Police were called to the 600 block of Chautauqua Street around 1:15 p.m. on February 5, 2023 for reports of a gunshot wound to Aquil. He died several hours later at a local hospital. Police found four.45-caliber casings inside the car.
