Steelers Practice Squad WR Facing NFL Punishment for Actions in Saints Game
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Brandon Smith faces an NFL fine after being called for unnecessary roughness against the Saints. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Brandon Smith may face financial penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct in a game against the New Orleans Saints, as he was penalized for a costly penalty in which he exchanged words with a Saints defender. The penalty occurred in the first quarter of the game, which was called after the Steelers had converted a first down with a six-yard rush on 3rd-and-2, allowing them to keep the first down but moving them back to their own 9-yard line. The NFL reviews games during the week, issuing fines for plays that violate rules regardless of whether or not they were flagged in the game. Smith could face a significant penalty, depending on how the league reviews his actions. The Steelers are awaiting a decision on Smith's status in the coming week.
