Pittsburgh Public Schools’ Parent Ambassador program wants to bridge gap as school closure plan takes shape
Pittsburgh Public Schools’ Parent Ambassador program wants to bridge gap as school closure plan takes shape Pittsburgh Public Schools has established a Parent Ambassadors program to help bridge the disconnect between administrators and families during the district’s school closure and reconfiguration plan. Each school has a designated parent to serve as a liaison between school officials and parents. Ambassadors are tasked with promoting participation in school activities, understanding district initiatives and assisting families in navigating the Future-Ready Facilities Plan. The plan, which addresses declining enrollment, aging infrastructure and equity gaps across the district, has been met with resistance from some parents who believe it will increase inequities. Mercedes Williams, the district's director of communications and stakeholder engagement, believes the program can improve how the district serves families.
