Violence, extreme profanity by students spark concerns at Indiana County elementary school

'Throwing chairs, flipping desks and using extreme profanity' Reports of violence and extreme profanity by students at East Pike Elementary in Indiana County have raised concerns among parents across the county. Katie Haberl Thomas, whose son is a first-grade student at the school, noticed something was off about her son's class at the start of the year. She went to the principal and teachers and requested reports, which revealed that there had been 107 disruptions in her son’s instructional time, 30 level-three calls for help to just his first-grader classroom, and nine full room evacuations in just his classroom. On Sept. 28, 11 major incidents were reported, backup was called four times, and six students were removed from the room. The Indiana Area District Superintendent responded by saying that the problem was a failure to address it and that there is no plan to fix it.
