NFL overcomes civil unrest, Trump concerns and calls to postpone as Steelers and Saints kick off in Paris
Sports The NFL has faced criticism over its decision to play its first-ever game in France, despite a Saturday of protests and violence. The Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints kicked off at Paris's Stade de France amid a heavier security presence than any other NFL regular-season game. Despite calls from pundits, players, and the President of the United States to postpone or relocate the game, the NFL remained confident in its decision. The game was played in the wake of an estimated 110,000 protesters, including students, workers, farmers, socialists, communists, pro-Palestine Muslims, anarchists, Antifa and other radicals. The Stade was near capacity at kickoff and it is unclear if there were any credible security threats prior to kickoff.
