A convenience store clerk in Pennsylvania is facing charges after an incident that was set off by a banana fight in his store.

And, no, that's not code for anything…

According to WPXI, Pittsburgh police were dispatched to a Sunoco station on Monday night following a report of an altercation.

Police say that a fight broke out after a customer threw a banana at the store's employees, who threw it right back. They say that several bananas were volleyed back and forth in the incident.

This sounds dangerous. If I know gas station bananas the way I think I know gas station bananas, those things were probably green, hard, and completely inedible.

Also, I've seen plenty of Three Stooges shorts and played Mario Kart; I know how dangerous and hilarious a banana peel can become in the wrong hands.

Of course — as they so often do — things escalated from banana throwing…

The Banana Fight Escalated To A Real Fight In A Hurry

The man who fired the opening 'nanner salvo must have run short on ammo and punched an employee.

This did not sit well with clerk Yubaraj Budhathoki. He is alleged to have chased the customer out into the parking lot and beat him repeatedly with a piece of PVC pipe.

The customer who was on the receiving end of that wound up in some rough shape. According to reports, he was taken to a nearby hospital with a potential brain bleed.

Police have not said if the customer who allegedly threw the first banana will face charges.

As for Budhathoki, he is facing charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. He is being held at the Allegheny County Jail.

Now, there's nothing funny about this situation (except the bananas, obviously; nature's funniest fruit), but this line from a local killed me.

I'm not sure why this TV station felt like this was a story that needed comments from locals, but here's what one lady had to say.

"I would say it’s an out-of-place occurrence. I’ve never heard of anything else kind of happening like that recently," Katherine MacDonald told WPXI.

Well, glad we got to the bottom of that one: banana fights are out of the norm at Pittsburgh area convenience stores… at least recently.

Maybe a decade or so ago it was more common. Who knows?
